Pat Logan is competing at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, and has made the M65 100m final, finishing fifth in a race won in a new world record.
The World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu runs from 22 August to 3 September 2026 across track, field and road events, with athletes from around the globe competing in five-year age bands from M35 upwards. The M65 100m final was won by John Wright of Great Britain, who ran 12.03 to lower his own world record, his previous mark of 12.15 had been set in Derby in September 2025. Wright is the same athlete who set the M65 indoor 400m world record at Toruń in March, where Pat competed in the relay squad that won European gold. Finishing fifth in a final won in 12.03, with a quarter of a second between Pat and the podium, is a strong result in one of the most competitive M65 sprint fields assembled at a world championship.
The photograph from the final shows Pat in his Great Britain vest, alongside finalists from Japan, Korea, Iran, Australia, Trinidad and Tobago and Chinese Taipei, the kind of international field that the World Masters Athletics Championships reliably produces. Pat progressed through heats and a semi-final across Saturday and Sunday before the final, a full championship programme of three rounds in the 100m.
The 200m and 4x100m relay are next on his programme at Daegu. Pat won silver in the 200m and gold in the 4x200m relay at the European Masters Athletics Championships Indoor in Toruń in March, where the GB relay squad also set a European record, so both remaining events are ones where he has a strong recent track record at major championship level.
Pat coaches the Momentum Sports sprint group at the Weir Archer Athletics and Fitness Centre in Kingston upon Thames. Competing at world championship level while coaching full-time, and finishing fifth in a world record race in the process, is a reasonable advertisement for what he teaches!
