Esaa track field cup national final 2026

Momentum Sports · 6 July 2026

Nine Momentum Sports athletes were at Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre on Saturday, 4th July, for the National Final of the ESAA Track and Field Cup, representing their schools.

The ESAA Track and Field Cup is a separate competition from the English Schools Championships, and this important distinction is worth making. While the Championships are a county-based competition for selected athletes, the Track and Field Cup is a school team event open to any secondary school in England that qualifies. Schools enter a team of up to 14 athletes across four categories - Junior Boys, Intermediate Boys, Junior Girls and Intermediate Girls, covering Years 7 to 10 - and the competition runs across three rounds, from local county events through to the national final. Getting to the final means your school has won at the county and regional level, and it is a big achievement just to be there.

Each athlete competes in two events, one track and one field, or one track or field event and a relay. That format rewards versatility and asks athletes to perform across disciplines, which makes it a good test of all-round ability rather than just peak performance in a single event.
