Momentum Track Club made the trip to Sutton on 19 July for the third match of the 2026 Southern Athletics League season and came away with a convincing victory — 85 points clear of second place, the strongest margin of the three matches so far.
The Southern Athletics League is the main regional club competition structure for athletics in the south of England, with teams accumulating points across track and field events throughout the outdoor season. A win by 85 points is a substantial one at this level!
The individual highlight of the day was Rebecca Keddie. Competing across a full programme, she won the 400m, 800m and 1500m as individual events and ran a leg in the 4x400m relay, which also won. Her 800m set a new league record for the fixture! Rebecca represented England at the Loughborough International earlier this year, and her capacity to win across three distances in the same match and contribute to a relay win underlines the kind of all-round middle-distance ability that makes her particularly valuable in team competition.
In the sprints, Sam Ige and Lily Cowen both completed sprint doubles, winning across their respective events. Sam, who competes for Belgrave Harriers and carries a 100m PB of 10.47, and Lily, ranked eleventh in the UK U20 200m rankings, have both had consistent seasons so far.
The relay programme produced three wins from three across MTC's teams, adding a significant block of points to the final margin.
In the field, the pole vault saw MTC field four competitors at a league match for the first time, with every athlete clearing a height. Oscar and Bella made their debut pole vault performances at the fixture. Building a pole vault group takes time and Holly has very helpfully put on a few masterclasses for your athletes; having four competing athletes across a league match means we can bring back significant points.
The match took place in sunny conditions at Sutton, and the 85-point winning margin puts MTC in a strong position in the SAL standings heading into the remaining fixtures of the season.
