Momentum Sports at the England Athletics Age Group Championships

Seven athletes from Momentum Sports and Momentum Track Club travel to Bedford International Athletic Stadium this weekend for the England Athletics Age Group Championships — the national championships across junior age groups that serves as the domestic benchmark for the country's best young club athletes.
Bedford International Athletic Stadium on Barkers Lane underwent a major track resurfacing project through 2025, completed in December and officially reopened in April 2026 following a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the Mayor of Bedford and England Athletics CEO Chris Jones. The investment programme, funded through Bedford Borough Council and delivered by Alliance Leisure and principal contractor Hunts, laid a new Mondo surface and returned the stadium to full competition standard. England Athletics specifically cited the restoration of the track as the reason for bringing the Age Group Championships back to Bedford in 2026. The venue is hosting the national age group programme on a surface that is in the best condition it has been in for some time.
The Momentum Sports contingent spans a range of events and age groups across the two days. From Momentum Track Club: Aurelia will line up in the 100m and 80m hurdles; Chloe L in the 300m; Emma K in the 100m; Giles H in the shot put, discus and javelin; and Ryan O in the 100m and 200m. From Momentum Sports, competing for their respective clubs: Joe T represents Kingston Athletics Club in the 110m hurdles, and Izzy R represents Bracknell Athletics Club in the 100m hurdles.
The hurdles entries carry particular interest given recent form, Izzy won gold in the 100m hurdles at the English Schools Track and Field Championships in Birmingham a fortnight ago, and the EA Age Group Championships will provide the opportunity to back that up at a different level of competition. English Schools and EA Age Groups draw from the same pool of junior athletes but operate under different structures — EA Age Groups are open to all club athletes rather than being limited to school county selections, which typically widens and deepens the field. Joe ran the 110m hurdles at English Schools as well and will be looking to build on that performance here.
Giles competing across three throws events — shot put, discus and javelin — his javelin personal best stands at 55.70m, a significant mark in the junior age groups, and the multi-event entry makes Bedford a demanding weekend both logistically and physically.
The championships will be livestreamed by England Athletics on their YouTube channel, with separate streams for track and field across both days from 9:45am. Field events — including Giles's throws — can be followed live rather than waiting for results to come through.
