What's On in May — Athletics Fixtures 2026

May is a busy month. The summer season is properly underway and the fixtures list reflects it — from university championships and international meetings to league matches, county championships and open meets. Here is what is on and where.

2nd–4th May — BUCS Championships, Cardiff
The British Universities and Colleges Sport Athletics Championships is the largest student athletics competitions in the country, drawing competitors from universities across the UK. Cardiff's National Athletics Centre hosts the outdoor competition this year, covering track and field across all events.

3rd May — YDL Lower Age Group, Kingston
The first Lower Age Group fixture of the season for the Youth Development League, with U14 and U16 athletes competing for team points across a full programme of track and field. The YDL runs across four fixtures through the summer, every placing counts.

9th–10th May — County Championships
Venue differs by county. Athletes across Surrey, Middlesex, Berkshire and beyond head to their respective county championship fixtures. The standard reflects the best each county has to offer across age groups.

16th May — Southern Athletics League, Tooting
Match 1 of the 2026 SAL season. The Southern Athletics League runs across four fixtures through the summer for U18, U20 and senior athletes, with clubs competing for team points. This is where the SAL cash prize battle begins — see the fixtures list for details.

17th May — BFTTA Open, Lee Valley
The Be Fit Today Track Academy open series at Lee Valley Athletics Centre in Edmonton. A well-run open meet and a popular choice for athletes looking for competitive races in a quality environment.

17th May — Ebbisham League, Kingston
The Ebbisham League is a local athletics league covering clubs in the Surrey area for junior boys. Fixtures are held at Kingston throughout the season.

17th May — Loughborough International, Loughborough
One of the biggest early-season international fixtures on the domestic calendar. Held at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium at Loughborough University, the LIA brings together England, Scotland, Wales and GB and NI Under-20s for a full day of track and field. Athletes are selected by their home country's athletics federation, with guest spots available to apply for.

18th May — Blackheath and Bromley Open, Norman Park
An open meet at Norman Park, hosted by Blackheath and Bromley Harriers. Entry details via the BBHAC website.

23rd May — IFAM Outdoor, Brussels
The International Friends Athletics Meeting at King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels — a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event drawing athletes from across Europe and beyond. For athletes chasing a fast early-season time in a competitive international field, this is a well-targeted meet.

23rd May — National Athletics League
Various locations across the country. The NAL runs two divisions — the Premiership and the Championship — with regional groups competing across three fixtures through the summer. The Championship South Match 1 is on this date.

24th May — YDL Upper Age Group, Kingston
The first Upper Age Group fixture of the YDL season for U18 and U20 athletes at Kingston.

25th May — Stratford Speed GP, Stratford
The Stratford Speed GP at the London Marathon Community Track — one of the faster surfaces in the country, with electronic blocks and photo finish timing. Athletes compete across two rounds of the 100m and a 200m, with heats set by ability.

30th May — YAC Quadkids and Open, Guildford
Young Athletes Club Quadkids and open event at Guildford. Quadkids is aimed at U9 and U11 athletes competing across four events — 50m, 600m, long jump and vortex howler.

30th May — Surrey Championships Masters and Hurdles, Kingston
Part 3 of the Surrey County Championships, incorporating the Masters age group events and hurdles events. Held at the Weir Archer Athletics and Fitness Centre in Kingston.

31st May — Hurdle Festival, Chelmsford
A dedicated hurdles-focused open meet in Chelmsford, covering a range of hurdles events across age groups.

31st May — YDL Lower Age Group, Kingston
A second YDL LAG fixture in May for U14 and U16 athletes.
