Momentum Sports is pleased with be working with Kingston and Polytechnic Athletics Club on a new scheme to develop athletics in south-west London. It is aimed a bringing athletics in the area to a new generation with fun and exciting training from our team of experienced qualfied coaches on a Tuesday evening from 5.00 to 6.15pm. It is open to all who would like to come along from school years 4 to 9 and will form a great foundation for future athletics improvement or possibly the gaining of skills which are transferable to other sports later on. Dependant upon numbers, the athletes will be split into group to train with athletes their own age. < | ![]() There will be training for all athletics events, including sprinting, longer distance running, jumping, pole vaulting, throwing and relays, designed to keep the interest of all who come along. If you would like further details, please go to the Kestrel Club Page and read all about it. We have concluded our search for sports masseur to join our team, which is great news for all concerned. Jenna Hill will be helping the Momentum Sports athletes to stay on track and hopefully produce their best performances over the summer. As well as being an accomplished athlete in her own right she is also a graduate in Sports Rehabilitation, a degree she obtained from St. Marys University in Twickenham, which is the home of the British Elite Distance Running squad. "My main role with the athletes will be for treatment and importantly the prevention of injuries. I hope to become a reliable and essential part of the team, in which will make a posititve difference in both their performances and achievements." said Jenna, and I for one would hope that is the case too. Good luck to her in her new role. We are currently look for a sports masseur who can help with Momentum Sports athletes based at Kingston. We are looking for an experienced qualified sports masseur who is particularly experienced at treating runners. We would like to gain from your experience not only in terms of your providing massages for athletes in the group but also by helping the athletes to look after their own muscles better, from the viewpoint of self-massage, stretching and anything else that might help. We have some funding for this and athletes would also be happy to pay for your services, so why not get involved with preparing some talented and dedicated athletes to perform up to their potential? If you are based near Kingston, SW London and this might interest you, please e-mail richardholt@momentumsports.co.uk and we can discuss an arrangement to suit us all. We are pleased to announce that we have produced a brand new social website for runners. It is aimed at anyone out there who would like to discuss their running, show off their pictures, make new friends or generally get involved with other runners on the internet. You can post pictures, videos, chat online, discuss things in the forum, post events you are hosting / wishing to take part in, add widgets (games / calendars / count calories etc etc). It is a hugely flexible tool, which we are sure you'll love. You can even keep others informed about your running with your own blog. You can even create you own private groups (say for your club or track group etc), so you can have a meeting space for your friends or fellow team mates which is totally private and can be controlled by the person starting the group. And what is even better is that it is entirely Free So I guess all that is left to be said it why not try out
Project 2012 is Momentum Sports new elite training scheme, designed to get peak performance from our athletes at the top level in time for the Olympic Games arriving in the UK in 2012.
We are injecting some money and a lot of time into 6 athletes (initially) to help them fulfill their full potential as athletes. We are seeking sponsorship to further underpin this venture - so that more professional assistance can be sought in the fields of physiotherapy, nutrition and psychology to name a few.
The six athletes chosen have all demonstrated a high level of both dedication and performance, but there is room for any other athletes who would like to join the scheme.

We are very pleased to announce our new
Fantasy League game for the 2008 Olympic Games. It is based on the performance of British athletes and you get to choose who is going to perform the best for our country. We have teamed up with our friends at www.ransacker.co.uk to provide some great prizes to those canny entrants who spot the athletes who will provide the best value in the course of the competition. So, who is it to be?
Can Paula win the marathon this time round, or will Phillips bring home the gold? Or are a number of cheaper athletes on the up, such as Michael Rimmer, Steph Twell and Craig Pickering going to provide better value? Should you take into account relays, or are the points available for these events not worth the expense? Don't just talk about it - play the game and put your reputation on the line in our fantastic free to enter competition.
It has been clear for a long time that what we eat affects how we run.
Here at Momentum Sports we like to give athletes as much information as possible to help them perform at the highest level possible, so we have spent the last few months collating many pages of information about sports nutrition to give you a kick start to making sure that you are eating wisely to produce the best possible performances.
The Momentum Sports Sports Nutrition Pages will give you all the areas of sports nutrition that you might need, with, at the very least, a good starting point to finding out how to eat properly.
Clearly Rugby Union isn't the sort of news we normally report on here, but we thought you would be interested in this one as James Arlidge, who played fly-half for Japan, received about a dozen coaching sessions from Momentum Sports coaches in the last couple of months aimed a increasing his speed.
Last year James had a horrible break in his leg, which he is only just returning to action from. We worked on his speed in both a straight line and also reacting to a change of direction and he will have been pleased to get through his first serious game having scored a try and a couple of conversions.
On Sunday 13 April 2008, a team of marines in full gear and carrying 30lbs backpacks will run the Tresco Marathon. Headed up by Captain Tim Lewington, the ten-man, Plymouth based, 42 Commando Royal Marines team is aiming to raise money to improve the lives of the thousands of people living with Cystic Fibrosis, the UK’s most common, life-threatening, inherited disease. Cpt Lewington’s brother, Oli (25), suffers from the disease but following a life saving double lung transplant in November last year, is set to join Tim for the final mile. They will be joined at the start line by GMTV presenter and CF Trust patron Ben Shephard who is undertaking his first marathon. If all goes well at the end of seven and a half laps with harsh inclines, Ben, the marines and over 100 other brave runners will be cheered over the finish line by best selling travel writer, Bill Bryson and actress Jenny Agutter. Fellow running enthusiasts can sponsor Oli and co at www.justgiving.com/trescomile For more information about Cystic Fibrosis visit www.cftrust.org.uk
After 8 years on the internet, we have just introduced the Momentum Sports Blog, everyone one else seems to have one, and we know you like to hear our musings on the world!!!!

Recently, you can't open the paper, or switch on the TV without hearing stories about Dwain Chambers and drug taking and how the sport is in ruins because of it.
This is very sad for the sport, as it is enjoyed by the vast, vast majority of participants, because it doesn't reflect the sport as a whole. Instead, we see the medias addiction with jumping on bad news and making the story run and run to fill up time and space. So, just to continue that (!), here is another opinion. Athletics has had, and continues to have a number of people who are willing to cheat to achieve their goals. More of them are caught than in other sports, for a very simple reason, that more of them are tested. Athletics in the British heyday of the 1980s wasn't blighted by drugs in the way it is now, but there is no doubt that many Olympic Champions from the 70s and 80s took drugs, as testimony from Eastern Europe bears out. It is good that drugs cheats are caught and that a system (however it should be changed in the future) is in place to penalise them, but then allow future participation in the sport for those who have made errors. The catching of these cheats does perceptual damage to the sport, but does send out a message to others that cheating won't be tolerated and you will serve a ban of a number of years (or life in the case of the Olympics). Clearly Dwain Chambers cheated, but if he had kept his mouth shut (with reference to his "to win an Olympic Gold you need to take drugs" quote) he would have been accepted back into the sport (as he was in 2006 and as Carl Myerscough has also been). Incidentally Carl Myerscough is in the team with Dwain Chambers for the World Indoor Champs, but this has barely been mentionned - is he not the same sort of cheat? To conclude, athletics needs to continue to filter out the cheats, but ensure that the testing system is as infallible as it can be - the destruction of an innocent athletes career by an incorrect test or system (even if they are later exhonerated) is something that should be protected against in all circumstances as all athletes who are tested are worried about a positive test coming back, even those who know they have done nothing wrong. The Hastings Half Marathon is organised by The Hastings Lions Club to raise monies for needy causes, and to promote our Historic and Wonderful town of Hastings. Runners are encouraged to raise monies for their own special causes that are close to their Heart. It is ideal preparation for the London Marathon, both in training, and getting big event experience in a 4000 strong field.
The Event is run under UK Athletic Rules, and is well marshalled with first class British Red Cross Support. The course circumnavigates the Ancient Town of Hastings, starting at the Seafront and following the route of William the Conqueror towards Battle, round the back of the Town and down to the Famous 'Old Town' and fishing Village of Hastings, then comes back along the three mile Seafront back to where you started. Although tough for the first part of the course, runners have produced some very fast times and PB's, as the last two-thirds is Flat or Downhill, and then the finish on the Promenade. The Event is for all runners of All Ability to achieve your own special Goal.
Fantastic Crowd Support. Good value, as Programme and Race Results included in the entry fee.
Come by road or train (as the station is not far from the start/finish line), or by Sea or Air! Plenty of Accommodation. Enter early, as Hastings has been popular with Visitors since 1066! More Details click on required information. In addition to being a well organised run, the organisers offer a free creche facility, Park & Ride Scheme, and for 2008 can offer Chip to Chip as well as Gun to Chip timing. As well as photos, a short video of you in the race will also be offered. You can see highlights of the Race that evening on ITVLocal.com when you get home. We intend to offer even more entertainment around the route, in addition to the three Choirs and two bands, it is aimed for more live music, a fairground organ, and the ‘Morgan boat’ We want to give runners value for money, and an experience they will remember. This is an Event Not To Be Missed. To find out more visit their website at www.hastings-half.co.uk
